Russian Prosecutor General’s Office Approved Espionage Indictment against Paul Whelan
OREANDA-NEWS. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia approved indictment against the US, UK, Canadian and Irish citizen Paul Whelan suspected of espionage.
This was announced on March 13 by said the lawyer of the foreigner Vladimir Zherebenkov. “The indictment has been approved; we have already received its copy. The materials were sent to the Moscow City Court to consider the case on the merits,” he said, adding that the materials of the criminal case will go to the court next week.
Whelan was detained during conducting a spy action on December 28, 2018. Later, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the charges of the investigation, noted that Whelan’s espionage activities were well documented. She also mentioned that US officials had never disputed facts connected with Whelan in the course of working contacts with Moscow.
