Russian Military Warn of Risk of Terrorist Breakout from Afghanistan
OREANDA-NEWS. Alexander Lapin, commander of the Central Military District, warned about the risk of a Taliban breakout (the organization is banned in Russia) into the territory of neughboiring countries - Iran, Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
During the opening of the military exercises of the armies of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries, commander Lapin stressed that the strengthening of the positions of ISIS (the organization is banned in Russia) and other international terrorist organizations is of particular world concern. And it entails the threat of their penetration into the border areas of the SCO countries.
Lapin sees the reason as the end of the US military campaign in Afghanistan. The withdrawal of troops led to a sharp jump in the terrorist threat in the Eurasian space.
The joint anti-terrorist exercise of the armed forces of the SCO countries Peace Mission 2021 will be held on September 20-24 at the Donguz training ground in the Orenburg region. The exercise involved about 5.5 thousand military personnel and over 1.2 thousand units of weapons, military and special equipment. The main objectives of the exercise are to improve the coherence of command and control in the preparation and conduct of a joint anti-terrorist operation.
