Russian Military Men Entered the Former “Capital” of the Islamic State
OREANDA-NEWS. Russian military men entered the city of Raqqa (Syria), which was the “capital” of the terrorist organization “The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” for several years.
The servicemen gave two thousand food packages to the local residents. Military doctors who are ready to provide highly qualified medical assistance to all people who need it also arrived in the city.
Vladimir Varnavsky, an officer of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in the Syrian Arab Republic, reported that the infrastructure of Raqqa was completely destroyed during the operation for its liberation, which was conducted by the international coalition led by the United States of America. “Thousands of civilian residents became victims of nonselective air and artillery attacks. They have not yet completed work to clear the rubble in the city, mine clearing of the area, there is a shortage of clean water, medicine and food,” Varnavsky said.
Terrorists captured Raqqa in the spring of 2013. At least 250 thousand inhabitants fled from the city. A year later, the settlement was proclaimed the “capital” of the Islamic State, it became a stronghold of militants.
In October 2017, the city was liberated after a months-long operation of the Syrian Democratic Forces with the support of the aviation of the international coalition.
During the massive bombing and actions of pro-American Kurdish troops, Raqqa was almost completely destroyed. Syrian Foreign Ministry considers the actions of the coalition to be genocide.
