OREANDA-NEWS The frigate of the Northern Fleet Admiral Golovko destroyed an attack drone in the Barents Sea using the Poliment-Redut anti-aircraft missile system (SAM). This happened as part of the exercises, the Sevflot press service said, RIA Novosti reports.
"As part of the planned combat training activities, the frigate struck an aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) heading for the ship. The combat exercise was performed during the ship's air defense exercise," the press service said.
The launch of the simulated drone took place from the coast of the Kola Peninsula. Calculations of the navigational, rocket-artillery and radio engineering combat units of the vessel took part in the exercise, its purpose was to check the coherence and speed of response of the combat crews of the SAM and the combat information center. The assessment was carried out based on the indicators of the speed of issuing target designations, target capture and tracking.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the ships of the Northern Fleet will practice the use of high-precision missiles during an exercise in the Atlantic Ocean. During the exercise, the ships simulate striking naval targets indicating the ship groupings of a simulated enemy at a distance of more than 600 kilometers.
