Russian Foreign Ministry Protested Tokyo over Territorial Claims
OREANDA-NEWS. As the media reported earlier today, on July 26, the Ambassador of Japan to Russia Toyohisa Kozuki was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry to protest him. The reason for this was Tokyo's unfriendly actions towards Russia, aimed at the territorial claims of Japan to the Russian Federation. Information about this appeared on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday.
Earlier, Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister of Japan Takeo Mori summoned Russian Ambassador Mikhail Galuzin to the Foreign Ministry. The summons of the Russian ambassador was connected with the visit of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to the "northern territories", as these islands are called in Japan. The Russian ambassador was protesting against this trip.
"Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation IV Morgulov expressed a strong protest to the Japanese side in connection with the hostile steps taken by official Tokyo in recent days in the context of Japan's territorial claims to our country," the Russian Foreign Ministry's website says.
It is noted that the ministry "persistently urged both sides not to resort to a destructive line in bilateral relations" and to return as soon as possible to the observance of the previously concluded agreements of the leaders concerning the raising of international Russian-Japanese relations to a "qualitatively new level" through the comprehensive development of trade and economic cooperation, building confidence-building measures in the field of security, coordinating positions in international affairs.
