OREANDA-NEWS. Moscow is counting on the US and NATO not pushing Georgia to confront Russia. This is stated in the answers to media questions posted on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, prepared but not voiced at a press conference by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov following the results of the activities of Russian diplomacy in 2019.
“We are observing the buildup of advanced political and military-technical cooperation between the alliance and Washington with Georgia,” the Russian Foreign Ministry noted. “We expect that the United States and NATO will take our warnings seriously and cease, in fact, inciting Tbilisi to confront Russia”. "On our part, there remains a constant interest in the consistent normalization of bilateral relations", the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the process of normalizing relations “was negatively affected by the June provocation of Georgian radicals,” in response to which the Russian Federation was forced to temporarily suspend flights with Georgia. “We hope that lessons will be learned from what has happened in Tbilisi”, the diplomatic service concluded.
