OREANDA-NEWS  The amount of additional customs payments charged by the Federal Customs Service of Russia increased by 73 percent in January-September, reaching 45.4 billion rubles — Vedomosti writes about increased control over the cost of goods imported into Russia.

As the newspaper reminds, the planned task for transfers to the federal treasury for customs officers this year exceeded seven trillion rubles. According to the results of the same nine months, the indicator of its implementation increased year-on-year by 11.5 percent, to 5.84 trillion rubles.

The FCS attributed the sharp increase in additional charges to the results of systematic work to improve the risk-based approach, improve the accuracy of the selection of control objects, its quality and automation of verification activities, as well as increase coverage. The ministry also noted that the "main fiscal results" were achieved primarily through control of the customs value and reliability of information about the classification code of the goods.

Among the reasons for the additional charges, the journalists' interlocutors draw attention to the unconfirmed customs value added to the "classic" one, incorrect classifications of the codes of the commodity nomenclature of foreign economic activity, as well as incorrect confirmation of the country of origin of the goods. So, if the inspection reveals that the product was produced in the United States, or importers cannot confirm the non-American origin of the imported products, the duty is charged at an increased tariff of 25-40 percent of the customs value.

Earlier, Russian customs officials reported the identification of more than 10.9 thousand facts of illegal movement of funds in cash in January-November 2024.
