OREANDA-NEWS. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved a draft agreement between Russia and Sudan, which provides for the creation of a logistics center for the Russian Navy on the territory of the African country.

According to the document, the number of personnel of the Russian Navy station will not exceed 300 people. An increase in the number can be agreed by the parties. The base will be able to host no more than four Russian warships, including vessels equipped with nuclear power plants.

The draft agreement notes that the deploying the logistical support point for the Russian Navy in Sudan “meets the goals of maintaining peace and stability in the region, it is defensive in nature and is not directed against other countries.”

The agreement is valid for 25 years, it is automatically renewed for subsequent ten-year periods, the document clarifies. To terminate it, one of the parties should notify the other of its intention at least one year before the expiration of the next period.

Currently, Russia has military facilities in Abkhazia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Ossetia, Syria, Tajikistan, Transnistria and Vietnam.
