OREANDA-NEWS. Russia will close its borders with Belarus for the movement of people, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced, the Russian media reported. “We also decided to close the border with Belarus to move people, took a number of other proactive steps”, said the Prime Minister. According to him, this is done to prevent the massive spread of coronavirus.

According to the Unified Interdepartmental Information and Statistical System (EMISS) alone, in 2019 Russia was visited by more than 440 thousand citizens of Belarus. There is no border control between the two countries forming the Union State.

The official representative of the Belarusian state border committee Anton Bychkovsky, as the media reports, said that Minsk had not yet made decisions in connection with the closure of the border on the Russian side.
