OREANDA-NEWS During their visit to Russia, the leaders of Gagauzia discussed the possibilities of selling the products of Gagauz farmers on the Russian market, enlisting the support of representatives of the Russian Federation, said Dmitry Konstantinov, chairman of the People's Assembly of the Gagauz Autonomy of Moldova (local parliament).
In early March, a delegation from Gagauzia headed by the head of the region Evgenia Gutsul and the speaker of the local parliament Dmitry Konstantinov visited Russia on a working visit.
"It is the agrarians who practically support our Gagauzia, since we have few industrial enterprises. Our farmers need a sales market so that they can safely sell their products. We have found full understanding in this. The task will be given to Rospotrebnadzor — there should be no problems with Gagauzia. For vegetables, fruits, and wine products," Konstantinov said on the Gagauz TV channel GRT.
According to him, it is difficult to enter the Russian market. "Unfortunately, in 2006 our leaders said that "we would rather pour our wines into the Dniester than kneel before Russia," and so they leaked. And then what? And at that time Moldova occupied 65% of the wine market in Russia. This is ten times more than today," the speaker stressed.
Since December 4, 2023, the Rosselkhoznadzor has returned to the restrictions imposed in 2022 on the import of quarantined products from Moldova to Russia. The restrictions also apply to Gagauzia.
Gagauzia is an autonomous region in the south of Moldova and traditionally advocates rapprochement with Russia, while Chisinau has declared a course towards European integration. In February 2014, a referendum was held in the autonomy on the issue of determining the vector of the country's foreign policy. More than 98% of its participants supported Moldova's integration into the Customs Union.
