OREANDA-NEWS Russia, with the mediation of Qatar, handed over to Ukraine five children separated from their families as a result of the conflict between the two countries. The ceremony was held at the embassy of the Middle Eastern state in Moscow, writes RBC.

According to the publication, the event was attended by Alexey Gazaryan, head of the office of the Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights, and Ahmed bin Nasser bin Jasim Al Thani, the Qatari Ambassador. Two girls and three boys between the ages of 11 and 17 will return to Ukraine.

According to the Russian Children's Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova, one boy was in a social institution, the rest of the children lived with relatives. "One girl lived with her great-uncle in Russia, as her mother has limited parental rights, and her grandmother is waiting for her in Ukraine, to whom she is attached. Another girl lived in Russia with her grandmother, and her dad is waiting for her in Ukraine," RBC quoted her as saying.

Russia and Ukraine regularly negotiate the return of children separated from their families to their home countries. So, in February, Ukraine handed over two 12-year-old girls to Russia. The children are sisters who lived with their grandparents in Ukraine. The girls' mother worked in Russia, but regularly visited her daughters until the fighting began.
