OREANDA-NEWS. Russian agricultural supervision does not exclude the possibility of introducing temporary restrictions on the supply of plant products from Ecuador, which is the main supplier of bananas, due to pests found in the products. This is stated in the message of the department.
"The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance revealed in the consignment of bananas imported from Ecuador that the quarantine object for the EAEU member countries is a multinucleated humpback fly, which is a carrier of a dangerous disease, cholera. The Agency for Phytosanitary and Veterinary Regulation notified the Rosselkhoznadzor about this fact Republic of Ecuador (Agrocalidad)", the report said.
According to the analysis of phytosanitary risk carried out by the All-Russian Center for Plant Quarantine FGBI subordinate to the Russian Agricultural Inspection, it's scientifically proven that this object is a universal pest of plant products. According to the agency, the polyphagous humpback fly infects many food products, including flour, soy, potatoes, bananas, melon, cheese, and dried fish.
