OREANDA-NEWS. Sergei Boyev, who is the general designer of an early warning missile system and the head of the MAC Vympel concern, at the Army-2020 forum in the Moscow region, said that the improved missile attack warning system had successfully passed state tests. This was reported by Interfax.
"By the end of September, we will eliminate the received comments and transfer them to the customer for operation," Boev said.
The Russian missile attack warning system includes ground communication facilities, ground and space echelons of information facilities.
The ground segment consists of a network of Voronezh over-the-horizon radars. They operate in various radio wave bands. Radar stations are capable of detecting space, ballistic and aerodynamic objects.
Radar stations "Voronezh" are on duty in the Leningrad, Kaliningrad, Irkutsk, Orenburg regions, in the Altai, Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk regions. Two new early warning systems for the Russian military are being built near Murmansk and Vorkuta, and another is planned to be built in Crimea.
It was reported that the orbital group of early warning systems will in the future consist of ten Tundra spacecraft, which should be deployed by 2024.
