OREANDA-NEWS Mandatory labeling of canned food along with veterinary drugs, vegetable oils and animal feed is being prepared to begin in Russia from September 1 next year, follows from the minutes of the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister - head of the government Dmitry Grigorenko (available to RIA Novosti).

"To note the absence of objections of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia to conducting experiments with the subsequent introduction of labeling from September 1, 2024 for the commodity groups "Veterinary drugs", "Animal feed" (in consumer packaging), "Canned food" and "Vegetable oils," the document says.

The meeting was attended by the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev, his deputy Marina Afonina, Deputy head of the government Apparatus Alexey Uvarov, as well as other representatives of the apparatus.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture were instructed to work out the issue of adjusting the timing of the introduction of mandatory labeling of dairy products produced by peasant (farmer) farms and agricultural production cooperatives. And also submit proposals to the government on conducting an experiment on the introduction of mandatory labeling of certain types of goods related to baby food.

"The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia ..., the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia... submit to the Government of the Russian Federation proposals on conducting an experiment on the introduction of mandatory labeling of certain types (groups) of products related to baby food, with a draft act of the Government of the Russian Federation (if necessary). The deadline is December 1, 2023," the protocol also adds.

At the end of September, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to conduct an experiment on labeling pet food from December 1, 2023 to November 1, 2024, a draft was also published, within the framework of which the ministry proposed to conduct an experiment on labeling veterinary drugs from April 1, 2024 to February 28, 2025. In turn, the experiment on the labeling of edible vegetable oils is planned to be carried out from December 1, 2023 to August 31, 2024.
