OREANDA-NEWS From August 1 to August 27, the Russian Federation exported 6.4 million tons of basic grain crops, which is 27% more than in the same period last year, according to the monitoring of the Russian Grain Union.
As Elena Tyurina, director of the analytical department of the union, told Interfax, shipments of wheat increased by 29%, to 5 million 355 thousand tons, barley - by 15%, to 910 thousand tons, corn - by almost 1.6 times, to 166.8 thousand tons.
"In principle, it is already possible to estimate the volume of shipments of the main types of grain for the whole of August. It may amount to 7.3 million tons, which is almost 26% more than in August last year (5.8 million tons)," she said. Tyurina estimated wheat exports at 6.1 million tons (4.5 million tons a year ago, an increase of 34%), barley - at more than 1 million tons (844 thousand tons, an increase of 18%). "Corn shipments can grow quite seriously - by 56%, up to 191 thousand tons against 122 thousand tons last season," she noted.
According to her estimate, about 10.6 million tons of wheat will be shipped in the first two months of the current season (July-August), which is 45% more than a year ago. "The demand for Russian wheat is very high. The number of buyer countries in August remained at the level of August last year, but the geography of exports has changed quite seriously," the expert said. - In August, Egypt is the leader in purchases, where about 600 thousand tons will be delivered. But this is almost two times less than in August 2022. Algeria may be in second place. Shipments to this country increased almost 6 times, to 518 thousand tons against 88 thousand tons. tons a year ago. Turkey, which has reduced purchases by 43%, will be the third. I think this is partly due to the hope that cheap Ukrainian wheat will arrive."
At the same time, the active growth of supplies to Africa continues. In Kenya, they increased 9 times, to 320 thousand tons, in Sudan - 2.5 times, to almost 180 thousand tons. "Large volumes were delivered to Tunisia in August - 94 thousand tons, to Yemen - 73 thousand tons. There were no deliveries to these countries last season. About 50 thousand tons were exported to Mozambique, Tanzania, and Eritrea. Wheat was also sent to Nigeria, Somalia and some other countries," the expert said.
There is a similar dynamic in shipments to Latin America. 224 thousand tons were sent to Brazil, 125 thousand tons to Mexico, 59 thousand tons to Venezuela, 55 thousand tons to Peru. In August last year, these countries were not among the buyers of Russian wheat. "There are also good results in the direction of the countries of Southeast Asia. Shipments to Bangladesh increased 47 times, to 263 thousand tons. 133 thousand tons were sent to Indonesia, shipments were minimal a year ago," Tyurina said.
According to her, among the transshipment capacities since the beginning of the month, raid transshipment has been leading. The growth of shipments of the main types of grain amounted to 34%, up to 1 million 955 thousand tons. Shipments via Novorossiysk increased by 78%, to 1 million 930 thousand tons, through Rostov-on-Don - by 18%, to 842 thousand tons. Other ports are also actively working.
