OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian government has banned the export to Ukraine of Russian oil and petroleum products. This was announced on Thursday at a government meeting by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, speaking of Moscow’s response to the restrictions imposed by Kiev.

“A ban is being placed on the export of Russian oil and oil products to Ukraine,” said the head of the cabinet. Medvedev also announced an expansion of the ban on the import of some Ukrainian goods. "We are expanding the ban on the import into Russia of certain types of goods, this measure will affect Ukrainian engineering products, light industry, metalworking, the cost of which amounted to almost $ 250 million over the past year," the government chairman said.

He clarified that some domestic goods can be exported to Ukraine only after special permission. “The list of those goods that from June 1 of the current year can be exported to Ukraine only on the basis of individual permits is determined,” he said, noting that this category includes production of the fuel and energy complex, including oil, coal and oil products.

The Prime Minister added that he had signed the relevant decree. “A few days ago, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine took another unfriendly step towards our country, expanded the list of Russian goods prohibited for import into Ukraine. Under these conditions, we are forced to defend and take retaliatory measures,” Medvedev stressed.

Ukraine first imposed sanctions against Russia in 2014 after the conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions and the annexation of the Crimea. Russia imposed retaliatory restrictions. Both sides have repeatedly expanded and extended their effect. In March, Ukraine introduced new sanctions against Russia - due to the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait and the detention of sailors in November last year.
