OREANDA-NEWS Russia and the Republic of the Congo have signed memoranda of cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy and hydropower, Rosatom State Corporation reported.
Nikolay Spassky, Deputy Director General and Director of Rosatom's International Activities Unit, paid a working visit to the Congo, he held talks with the country's Minister of Energy and Water Resources Emil Wasso.
"Based on their results, memoranda of cooperation were signed in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy and in the field of hydropower," the message says.
Spassky also met with Congolese Prime Minister Anatole Colline Macosso, "during which the main attention was paid to the prospects for the consistent promotion of the Russian-Congolese partnership in the energy sector as a whole."
The Republic of the Congo, which is interested in the technologies of the Russian peaceful atom, will prefer the option of a floating nuclear power plant, Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev said earlier. Congo is also very interested in medical issues, including nuclear, and other renewable energy sources, Likhachev said.
