OREANDA-NEWS  Rusal has created a new aluminum-silicon-magnesium alloy system, whose durability is 12-15% higher than that of world analogues, and strength is 5%, it is used, among other things, for high-speed trains, the company said.

Rusal, one of the world's largest aluminum producers, has developed a new aluminum-silicon-magnesium alloy system... Alloys of the aluminum-silicon-magnesium system due to their strength, fatigue life and manufacturability during pressing are widely used in car building, including in most models of high-speed trains. Alloy 1343, thanks to its optimized chemical composition, has improved characteristics compared to analogues: fatigue life is 12-15% higher, strength is 5% higher," the press release says.

The most important advantage of aluminum is that its use in the design reduces the weight of wagons, which allows for some types of cargo to increase the commercial load of one wagon or increase the length of a freight train without additional traction, the message adds.

It is noted that the aluminum body of the wagons does not need anti-corrosion treatment, unlike the steel body, therefore the period of operation of the aluminum one is much longer. In addition, after the expiration of its service life, it is subject to one hundred percent recycling and reuse in production, it follows from the company's materials.
