OREANDA-NEWS  The Rosselkhoznadzor has imposed restrictions on the import into Russia and transit through the country of all poultry products from the United States due to the increased outbreaks of avian influenza in the United States, the agency reports.

The restrictions will not affect the Russian market, as these products from the United States have not been supplied to Russia since 2014 due to the food embargo. However, American poultry products transit through the territory of the Russian Federation to other countries.

"Due to the increased frequency of outbreaks of avian influenza in the United States, imports of American poultry products are limited by a number of countries... The Rosselkhoznadzor also introduced restrictions on the import into Russia and transit through the country of all poultry products from the United States from July 24, 2024," the Rosselkhoznadzor said in a statement.

The ban included: live poultry and hatching eggs; poultry meat, finished poultry meat products and all types of poultry products containing poultry processing products (except for products that have been processed to ensure the destruction of avian influenza viruses).

The ban also applies to feed and feed additives for birds (with the exception of feed and feed additives of plant origin, chemical and microbiological synthesis, as well as feed and feed additives that have been processed). Used equipment for keeping, slaughtering and butchering birds also fell under restrictions.
The issue of lifting time limits may be considered by the Rosselkhoznadzor after providing comprehensive information on the elimination of outbreaks of avian influenza in the United States and negotiations between the competent authorities of Russia and the United States.
