OREANDA-NEWS  The situation in the Russian Federation on anthrax in the border area with Mongolia is stable, the threat of epidemic spread is excluded, Rospotrebnadzor reported.

According to information available to Rospotrebnadzor, a resident of the Mongolian Uvs region bordering Russia in the north-west of the country contracted anthrax while grazing cattle. The diagnosis was confirmed in the laboratory, the patient was hospitalized and continues treatment.

"Rospotrebnadzor specialists constantly carry out operational monitoring of the epidemiological situation. The anthrax situation is stable in the border area with Mongolia. The threat of epidemic spread is excluded. The disease is not transmitted from person to person," the ministry noted.

In order to prevent the importation of dangerous infectious diseases into the territory of the Russian Federation, enhanced sanitary and quarantine control is carried out at all checkpoints, including using the Perimeter AIS, which allows to assess and minimize the risks of importation of dangerous infectious diseases.

Rospotrebnadzor reminds that if external signs of disease are suspected in animals, you should immediately contact a veterinary specialist of the locality. To avoid infection, do not purchase meat from private individuals in makeshift markets. Persons who have been in contact with sick animals or infectious material are subject to active medical supervision for two weeks. At the first signs of illness, you should immediately consult a doctor.

The department recalled that anthrax is a dangerous infectious disease. The causative agent of anthrax Bacillus anthracis is able to form spores that are stable in the environment and can persist in the soil for many years. The source of anthrax for humans are sick farm animals: cattle, horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, deer, camels, as well as thermally untreated food products from them.
