OREANDA-NEWS. Russian President Vladimir Putin will not address the climate summit in Glasgow, but has recorded a video address to one of the conference sessions. Dmitry Peskov, the head of state's spokesman, told reporters on Monday.

"The President, unfortunately, will not speak [at the COP26 leadership summit in Glasgow because there is no provision for participation via videoconference in Glasgow. However, there will be a conference on forest and land management at the climate change summit in Glasgow, and the president has already recorded a video message to attend that conference,"- Peskov said. "The direct speech, yes, indeed, unfortunately, will not take place, it is simply not provided for in the format of this event,"- the Kremlin spokesman continued.

He did not specify details of Putin's video address at one of the sessions in Glasgow, including not answering the question of what day the recording would be shown. "That would have to be asked of the conference participants. That's something I can't say exactly when and how they will show it,"- the Kremlin spokesman explained. Earlier, the Russian Natural Resources Ministry said that an event on forest governance was scheduled as part of COP26 for November 2.

Peskov noted that the theme of the Glasgow conference largely overlaps with the climate agenda of the G20 summit held on 30-31 October. The press secretary of the Russian President reminded that Putin, speaking at the G20, "outlined the approaches of the Russian side in sufficient detail".

As previously reported, more than 100 heads of state and government from around the world, including US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron, will attend the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which opened the day before, 31 October, in Glasgow. The main work of the forum begins on Monday, with the summit of world leaders, which will run for two days.
