Putin to attend meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council

OREANDA-NEWS Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on Thursday, which will be held in the Leningrad region at the Igora resort complex near St. Petersburg.
The summit participants will discuss topical issues of the functioning of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), prospects for further deepening integration processes, review the progress of work to eliminate barriers and restrictions in the internal market of the union, to harmonize legislation in the financial sector, and to increase the level of liberalization of the single market of services. The leaders will also approve the main directions of international activities for 2025 and the organization's budget.
More than twenty documents are being prepared for signing at the end of the summit. Among them is the decision to grant the Islamic Republic of Iran the status of an observer state at the EurAsEC.
Traditionally, a narrow-format meeting will be held at the beginning, where participants will discuss in private the formation of a common gas market of the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as common markets for oil and petroleum products, the development of a methodology for calculating standards for the distribution of import customs duties between the budgets of the member states of the Union, mechanisms and principles of rotation of positions of members of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, as well as Belarus' obligations in the field of state support for agriculture.
Due to the fact that from January 1, 2025, the presidency of the EurAsEC passes to Belarus, the president of this country, Alexander Lukashenko, will tell at the summit about his priorities.
The summit will also determine the time and place of the next council meeting.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was supposed to preside over the meeting, but the day before he wrote on a social network that he would not participate in the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Council due to a positive coronavirus test. In addition to the heads of the association's member countries, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will take part in the event, as well as a video message from Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez. Both states are observers in the EurAsEC.
