OREANDA-NEWS  Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the idea of creating an Official register of the languages of the peoples of Russia.

The President is holding a meeting of the Council for the Support of the Russian Language and the Languages of the Peoples of Russia on Tuesday. The chairman of this council is Elena Yampolskaya.

Putin stressed that the law "On the Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation", which was adopted in 1991, contains disparate concepts and provisions, and there is practically no Official Register of the languages of the peoples of Russia.

"Therefore, this is a very urgent task. We must definitely work on this," the president said.
