OREANDA-NEWS. Violation of human rights in Ukraine has become systemic. This was announced on February 1 by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Naturally, the issue related to the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict was also discussed. They considered the situation in Ukraine as a whole, including in the field of human rights, the violation of which has become systemic there,” he said at a press conference following talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in the Kremlin.
Putin noted that the Hungarian partners are making energetic attempts to solve this problem.
Earlier, on July 23, 2021, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that in Ukraine “they are simply burning out the information field”, closing leading TV channels, banning literature in Russian and eradicating the Russian language in various ways. He stressed that the West at the same time "completely turns a blind eye to the behavior of its wards."
A day earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that for many years Russia has drawn attention to the situation with human rights violations in Ukraine, while Western countries did not want to talk about this topic.
On July 20, Russia sent a corresponding complaint to the European Court of Human Rights. The complaint was filed under Art. 33 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
The Russian Foreign Ministry explained that the situation in Ukraine left Russia no choice but to involve international courts. As emphasized in the department, we are talking about discrimination against the Russian-speaking population, the persecution of journalists and the media, systematic atrocities perpetrated against the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the detrimental consequences of the actions of the Kiev authorities on the population of Russian border territories.
