OREANDA-NEWS By the end of 2022, the Russian economy was in the top 5 largest economies in the world. This was stated by President Vladimir Putin, quoted by RIA Novosti.

"Despite, frankly speaking, the pessimistic forecasts that sounded — and still sometimes sound from some experts, first of all, of course, Western ones — Russia by the end of 2022 (...) It has entered the top five largest economies in the world," the leader of the state assessed the state of the Russian economy.

Putin pointed out that, according to the World Bank, Russia was second only to the United States, China, India and Japan in calculating GDP at purchasing power parity.

Earlier, Rosstat reported that according to the results of the second quarter of 2023, the domestic economy grew by 4.9 percent year-on-year, which was the first quarterly increase in GDP for the year. The construction industry was among those that added the most — it increased by 9.8 percent. Also among the leaders are passenger turnover (plus 19.8 percent), wholesale trade (12.5 percent) and manufacturing (11.3 percent).
