OREANDA-NEWS  Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

During the talks, Putin stated Russia's interest in developing cooperation with Egypt, which is a "long-standing and reliable partner." "We are moving forward at a steady pace in the trade and economic sphere. Egypt accounts for about a third of Russia's total trade turnover with Africa," the president said.

The head of Egypt, in turn, stressed that he highly appreciates the dynamic development of relations with Russia. He also mentioned major joint projects between the two countries — the creation of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant and the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal area.

Earlier, Putin said that Russia and Egypt are in solidarity in their approaches to solving many problems. He pointed out that Moscow appreciates cooperation with Cairo within the framework of the United Nations.
