Putin Instructed to Prepare Measures to Prevent Torture in Colonies

Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Justice and the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation to prepare proposals by June 1 to prevent bullying in pre-trial detention centers and colonies. The corresponding instruction was published on January 6 on the Kremlin's website.

"The Ministry of Justice of Russia, together with the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, to analyze the practice of applying the criminal-executive legislation of the Russian Federation and, if necessary, prepare proposals aimed at preventing the use of illegal methods of influence against persons in custody and sentenced to imprisonment," the document says.
According to its text, both departments must submit their proposals in the report by June 1. Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuychenko and Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov were appointed responsible for the execution of the order.
