OREANDA-NEWS   Putin signed a law on the creation of a database of genetic information. The document is published on the legal information portal.

The law defines genetic data as information about the genetic information of various biological objects that are suitable for obtaining, systematizing, accumulating, storing, clarifying, using, distributing and destroying such information. Genetic information is the sequence of nucleotides in nucleic acid polymers.

The proposed system will be created in order to ensure national security, protection of life and health of citizens, sovereignty in the field of storage and use of genetic data. In addition, this system will allow the exchange of information contained in it between the authorities and the owners of genetic data during their interaction within the framework of genetic engineering activities.

It is noted that the law will come into force on September 1, 2024. The functions of the customer will be carried out by the Ministry of Science, and the operator will be the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute".
