OREANDA-NEWS Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed his administration and the government of the country to take the necessary steps to create a new set of history textbooks. During Putin's meeting with members of the HRC, Leonid Polyakov made a request to create new textbooks on history and social studies.

"Good. This is a very important question, you are absolutely right and thank you for insisting on asking it. It is an issue of truly national importance. History in general is important for any people, especially at some difficult turns in the life of the state," Putin said.

According to the president, "just such a moment has come when we are obliged to pay very close attention to history and to the formation of public consciousness on the basis of reliable historical data, and everything is formed, of course, from school."
