OREANDA-NEWS. Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was pleased with the outcome of his talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un. He told this to the journalists after the summit.
“We are all pleased with the outcome of the talks - both I and my colleagues,” the Russian leader stressed. “Chairman Kim Jong-Un is a fairly open person, leading a free discussion on all issues that were on the agenda.” Among these issues, Putin called bilateral relations, the sanctions theme of the UN, the relations of the DPRK and the United States and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. “We spoke in great detail, discussed various aspects of all these problems,” the Russian president stressed.
The president added that the multilateral format of negotiations on the DPRK will be needed when it comes to the issue of international guarantees for Pyongyang, but now there is no urgent need. "I don’t know if this format should be resumed right now, but I’m deeply convinced that if we get to a situation where we need to develop some guarantees of one of the parties, in this case, security guarantees for the DPRK, then without international guarantees there’s no get by, "Putin said.
The Russian leader expressed the assumption that "some agreements between the two countries are unlikely to be enough, but this is ultimately the business of the country to which this primarily concerns, this is primarily the business of the DPRK." Putin also said that the implementation of joint infrastructure projects of Russia, the DPRK and the Republic of Korea is possible, this would help to increase confidence on the Korean Peninsula. “Recently there was a docking of the railways of the North and the South, in principle, there is already essentially a way out to Russia, but so far we have not been able to get rid of the first trains in the test mode,” Putin noted.
