OREANDA-NEWS  Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping began talks in Kazan on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.

The BRICS Summit is taking place in Kazan from October 22 to 24. It will be the largest foreign policy event that has ever been held in Russia.

On the eve of the meeting, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced "detailed negotiations" between the two leaders. This year, the countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. In 2023, the trade turnover amounted to a record $227.8 billion. In 2024, as noted in the materials for the negotiations, mutual trade continues to grow.

The meeting with Xi Jinping continues Putin's series of international contacts on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan. Earlier, the head of the Russian state had already held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, as well as with President of the New Development Bank Dilma Rousseff.

The BRICS Summit in Kazan is taking place from October 22 to 24 and will be the largest foreign policy event that has ever been held in Russia. According to Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, 36 countries (22 of them at the highest level) will be represented at the summit, and the heads of six international organizations will also arrive.

BRICS is an interstate association established in 2006. Russia assumed the BRICS presidency on January 1, 2024. The year began with the accession of new members to the association - in addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Africa, it now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Russia's BRICS presidency is held under the motto of strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security. As part of its presidency, the Russian Federation organizes more than 200 political, economic and social events.
