OREANDA-NEWS Russian President Vladimir Putin extended the food embargo for two years at once, according to a decree on the website of the official publication of legal acts.

The document says about the extension of special economic measures from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026, introduced back in 2014 in response to international sanctions.

In 2014 Russia imposed a food embargo. The restrictions affected those countries that imposed sanctions against Moscow, including the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia and Norway.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that since the introduction of the food embargo 10 years ago, Russia has replaced the entire range of Western food products. He added that initially the decision to impose an embargo was risky, but, as subsequent events showed, justified, since Russia coped with the challenges posed.
