Prior to that, Kurynin was the head of Roszdravnadzor for Moscow and the Moscow region. In 2023, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kurenkov, awarded him an award for saving a flight attendant who lost consciousness on board during a flight.

Vladimir Putin dismissed Colonel-General Alexander Chupriyan from the post of first Deputy head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia at the end of March 2023, since then the vacancy has been open. One of the possible reasons for Chupriyan's departure was called the reform of the Centrospas detachment.
