Putin Announced the Registration of the First Vaccine against Coronavirus in Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. On August 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the registration of the first vaccine against coronavirus of a new type. “As far as I know, this morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against a new coronavirus infection has been registered,” the politician said.
On August 7, Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Oleg Gridnev, said that Russia would become the first country in the world to register a vaccine against COVID-19. The drug was developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, it was planned to be registered on August 12. Gridnev also added that health workers and elderly aged people will be the first recipients of the vaccine. According to the official, the effectiveness of the new medicine can be assessed by the results of the formation of population immunity.
The outbreak of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19, began at the end of December of the last year. For several months, the infection has spread from the Chinese city of Wuhan to more than 210 countries. On March 11, the World Health Organization announced a worldwide pandemic.
