OREANDA-NEWS. Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks in the Kremlin on Thursday with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who will fly to Moscow amid a sharply aggravated situation in the de-escalation zone in the Syrian province of Idlib.

"Expectations from the negotiations are to come to a common understanding of the forerunner of this crisis in Idlib, the causes of this crisis, the detrimental effects of this crisis and the set of necessary joint measures for its further cessation", Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian leader, told reporters on Wednesday. He did not talk about which particular set of measures could be discussed, urging him to wait for the outcome of the meeting.

According to Peskov, Moscow stands for the territorial integrity of Syria and supports Damascus in the fight against terrorism, while maintaining commitment to the Sochi accords and attaching "great importance to cooperation with Turkish partners."

The Turkish leader on Wednesday told reporters that he expects from negotiations in Moscow "an early establishment of a ceasefire". Prior to this, he assured that Turkey has no views on Syrian territory and the desire to gain a foothold there.
