OREANDA-NEWS The Presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, agreed in a telephone conversation to determine the dates and venue of the meeting in the near future, said Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the head of the Russian state.
"They have been going to meet for a long time, even before the presidential elections in Turkey, but before the elections they decided not to do this, so as not to give food for the malicious critics who would immediately start accusing Moscow of interfering in internal affairs in Turkey, so they decided to do it after. The elections have passed, the schedule is tense and Erdogan (...). They spoke several times on the phone, and agreed to determine exactly in the near future, firstly, by the place where it will happen, and by the timing," Peskov told reporters.
The agenda of the upcoming meeting is bilateral relations, the Ukrainian issue, the "grain deal" and an exchange of views on world affairs, Peskov said.
According to him, the venue of the Russian-Turkish summit meeting has yet to be determined.
"It's not necessarily Turkey, but Erdogan invites you to his place. You know that the President himself (RF - IF) at a night press conference in St. Petersburg said that now is the time when he should be in the country. Therefore, it is difficult for him to make any visits now," Peskov said.
The details will have to be agreed on the diplomatic channels, he added.
When asked whether the presidents discussed the transfer of Azov militants by Turkey to Ukraine (the organization is banned in Russia), he replied: "No, this topic has not been touched upon."
A telephone conversation between the two leaders took place on the afternoon of August 2. The Kremlin's press service reported that they agreed "to continue contacts at various levels, including in the context of preparing for a possible meeting of the two leaders." Anadolu agency reported that Putin and Erdogan had agreed by phone on the visit of the Russian president to Turkey, but did not name a possible date for this trip.
