President Putin: Taliban Control Almost All of Afghanistan
OREANDA-NEWS. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Taliban control almost the entire territory of Afghanistan.
"Now the realities are such that the Taliban movement controls almost the entire territory of Afghanistan, with the exception of Panjshir and small territories adjacent there to the north, but nevertheless adjacent there to Tajikistan," Putin said at the WEF plenary session.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the situation in Afghanistan is a humanitarian disaster.
The Taliban have captured almost the entire territory of Afghanistan. The Panjshir province northeast of Kabul remains uncontrolled by them.
Putin called what is happening in the republic a disaster. At the same time, he stressed that American analysts themselves are talking about this.
The Russian President considers zero result from US spending on the military campaign in Afghanistan. According to him, the United States has allocated at least one and a half trillion dollars for this purpose.
"If you look at the number of people who are abandoned in Afghanistan, worked for the collective West, for the United States and its allies, then this is a humanitarian disaster," Putin said at the Eastern Economic Forum, quoted by RIA Novosti.
The Russian leader called the desire to "civilize" other peoples as a "wrong policy".
In the issue of recognizing the Taliban government, one must proceed from the realities, what is behind their statements, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Today, the Taliban controls. If so, then we must proceed from reality. Of course, I agree with the President of Kazakhstan, as well as with many other colleagues, I have spoken to many on this score lately. We need to look at what is behind the statements of the leaders of the Taliban *, he said at the WEF.
