President of Kazakhstan Tokayev Offered Mediation in Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS Kazakhstan calls on Russia and Ukraine to find a common language at the negotiating table and is ready to become a mediator for this. This was announced on March 1 by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
"Our position should proceed from the critical need to ensure the security of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. As a country that hosted the OSCE Summit in 2010, we insist on the principle of indivisibility of Eurasian security. "..." The principle of indivisibility and community of security presupposes mutual understanding based on mutual trust.
Unfortunately, this did not happen. The Minsk agreements remained on paper, which led to military actions on the territory of Ukraine," Tokayev said at an extraordinary congress of the Nur Otan party, renamed Amanat the day before.
Tokayev noted that the two sides have no other way to resolve the situation.
"A bad world is better than a good quarrel. There will be no development without peace," the President concluded.
A day earlier, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine took place in the Gomel region of Belarus.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that there is "no result yet" in negotiations with Russia that he would like to get. He noted that at the talks Moscow voiced its positions, Kiev put forward counter points. According to him, Ukraine has received "some signals".
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, said that in order to stabilize the situation in Ukraine, denazification and demilitarization of the country are necessary, as well as Kiev's confirmation of its neutral status and recognition of Russia's sovereignty over Crimea.
