OREANDA-NEWSEstonian President Kersti Kaljulaid said that there is no point in keeping Russian-speaking schools in her country. She said this after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“As a European country, we provide the educational system in the official language,” Kaljulaid said in an interview with the Russian media. When all education goes to Estonian, a small number of schools will continue to study in depth Russian culture, literature and language, Kaljulaid said.

The head of Estonia also noted that Russian-speaking parents increasingly prefer to send their children to institutions with the Estonian language. With such a development of the situation, there is no point in maintaining two parallel school systems, the politician believes. The President of Estonia met with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin on April 18 during the opening of the restored historic building of the Estonian embassy. Estonia wants a peaceful dialogue with Russia, Kaljulaid’s television channel 360 leads the position. According to the official website of the President of the Russian Federation, the meeting of the heads of Estonia and Russia has not been for eight years.

Earlier it was reported that after meeting with the head of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko in 2018, Kaljulaid declared “full support” of Kiev, reminds the “Federal News Agency”. Later, a number of Estonian politicians were banned from entering the Russian Federation due to anti-Russian positions. The Baltic state called for the winding up of Nord Stream II (a project for the transit of gas to Europe through the Baltic Sea). In February, the head of Estonia announced a ban on teaching in schools in Russian.
