OREANDA-NEWS On May 18, Director of the Center for Current Politics Aleksey Chesnakov explained the conditions necessary for Russia and Ukraine to be able to agree on the terms of a peace treaty.
According to the political scientist, a successful outcome of the negotiations requires mutual trust between the parties, as well as an unambiguous understanding of the situation on the ground and the ability to set realistic goals. At the same time, it is necessary to develop a transparent procedure for the implementation of agreements and achieve reliability of mutual guarantees, he noted.
Meanwhile, Chesnakov stated that at the moment the situation does not meet the requirements for any of the listed items.
“In order for optimistic forecasts to appear regarding the prospects for resuming the negotiation process, signals are required that will change the assessment of each of the fixed conditions in a more positive direction,” the director of the CPC wrote in his Telegram channel.
Earlier, Bogdan Bezpalko, a member of the Council for Interethnic Relations under the President of the Russian Federation, named the conditions for continuing negotiations with Ukraine. He noted that the West "set up Kyiv for an uncompromising and final fight" to the bitter end, "but under certain conditions, it can still agree to a ceasefire.
