Zelensky Said He Would Leave the Presidency If He Does Not End the War in Donbass
OREANDA-NEWS. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that if he is not able end the war in Donbass, then another president is needed. “If I cannot end the war, then another person, who is able to end this tragic story of our countries, must come,” the politician said in an interview with the BBC published on October 12.
He noted that he does not hold on to the position of the President. “Initially, I said that I do not cling to ratings or power,” Zelensky said. At the same time, the head of state claimed that he believes in a peaceful settlement in Donbass. “I believe in this. Otherwise, I would not go to the presidency of Ukraine. It is very difficult, and here we need the help of the whole world, it is true. But I do not lose this faith,” the Ukrainian President stated.
Zelensky assured that Kiev is ready to follow the Minsk Agreements. At the same time, he said about the disagreements around them. According to Zelensky, he told German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin that he agreed to special conditions for Donbass but he is against establishing this in the Ukrainian Constitution.
