Zelensky Asked Merkel for Help with Coronavirus Vaccine
OREANDA-NEWS. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in a telephone conversation with Angela Merkel, asked her to expand Ukraine’s access to a new vaccine against coronavirus, which is currently being developed within the framework of the international foundation COVAX.
“We welcome the breakthrough achieved by the German company BioNTech together with the American company Pfizer in the development of a coronavirus vaccine. This is very encouraging news. I would like to ask for your assistance in taking into account the interests of Ukraine when planning the supply of COVID-19 vaccine,” the website of the head of the Ukrainian state quotes his words.
Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the EU plans to purchase 300 million doses of vaccine from the German pharmaceutical company BioNTech and its American partner Pfizer. “Great news from Pfizer & BioNTech Group on the successful results of their latest clinical trial for a COVID-19 vaccine. European science works!” she wrote on Twitter.
On November 9, Zelensky announced that he had contracted the coronavirus. “I feel good. I promise to isolate myself and continue working,” he wrote. It also became known that Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko and head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak also were infected with coronavirus.
