USA and France Urged Russia to Clarify Turkey’s Role in the Agreement on Nagorno-Karabakh
OREANDA-NEWS. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said during joint talks that their countries would recognize Russia’s actions over Nagorno-Karabakh, but called on Moscow to clarify Turkey’s role in the agreement. This was reported on November 17 by a representative of the US State Department after the negotiations between Paris and Washington.
On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement to end hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh from November 10. The document also provides for the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into the region, the exchange of captives between the parties to the conflict, the transfer of a number of districts from Armenia to Azerbaijan and the return of refugees to Nagorno-Karabakh.
On November 16, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent to the country’s parliament a draft decree on deploying military in Azerbaijan.
