US Senators Offered to Impose Sanctions against Turkey
OREANDA-NEWS. The members of United States Senate offered to impose sanctions against the assets of supreme Turkish officials, including the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as visa restrictions. The draft document supported by both Republican and Democratic parties was published on the Twitter page of influential Republican Senator Lindsay Graham. Senators also proposed imposing sanctions against the Turkish energy sector and ban military cooperation with it.
"Sanctions on the U.S. assets of the following Turkish Political Leadership: President, Vice President, Minister of National Defense, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Treasury and Finance, Minister of Trade, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources," the document says.
It is offered that sanctions against the energy sector will apply to any foreign citizens who supply goods, services, technologies, information and other support that “maintains or supports Turkey’s domestic petroleum production and natural gas production for use by its armed forces.”
In addition, it is suggested to establish a ban on the provision of military assistance to Turkey, in particular on the sale of military products, services, technologies and materials for the armed forces of the country, as well as prohibit the supply of ammunition for the Turkish army.
It is also proposed to officially proclaim Turkey’s purchase of Russian S-400 air defense systems as a “significant” violation of the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, which means automatic imposing sanctions against Ankara.
