OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki announced that the USA had decided to increase significantly its military contingent in the territory of the country.

“The United States, our most powerful ally, thanks to the efforts of President Andrzej Duda and the Minister of National Defense, has decided to increase the troop contingent of the US forces in Poland by more than ten times,” he said in a speech in the Sejm.

In summer, Warsaw and Washington signed a joint declaration on military cooperation. According to the document, the size of the military contingent was to grow by a thousand people from the current 4.5 thousand. The parties also agreed on the location of the military men and equipment on the territory of the republic, and the city of Poznan was chosen as a location of the headquarters. In Warsaw, they said that in this way the command of American troops on the eastern flank of NATO would move to Poland.

In September, the head of the ruling party Law and Justice, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, said that initially there was no plan for a permanent American presence in Poland. However, according to him, the geopolitical situation in recent years “has led to a change in the position of our Western allies, in particular the United States.”

Andrei Krasov, the First Deputy Chairman of Russian State Duma Committee on Defense, commented on the information on increase of American military in Poland. “An increase in the military contingent of the United States anywhere in Europe is unacceptable. There are so many American bases in European countries, since almost all of them are the members of the NATO. Europe is already oversaturated with weapons, military equipment and military units,” Krasov said.
