US Department of Justice Will Withdraw Charges against Former Trump’s Adviser Flynn
OREANDA-NEWS. The US Department of Justice has decided to close the case of former presidential adviser Michael Flynn, who was previously accused of lying to the representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation about contacts with Russian officials.
The agency explained that they took such a step, since at this stage they are not sure that they will be able to convincingly prove in court that the accused is guilty. The Department’s statement says that the authorities are not sure that the interrogation was carried out legally, therefore they doubt that Flynn’s answers are of great importance, even if they contained incorrect information.
Flynn concluded a deal with justice in 2017, he committed to cooperate with the investigation and pleaded guilty. However, later the politician canceled the deal, stated that he was innocent, and expressed his willingness to prove it in court.
On May 1, US President Donald Trump announced that he does not rule out the return of Flynn to the administration for a new position.
