Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Promises to Continue Denouncing Treaties with Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will continue to reduce the number of agreements with Russia. This was stated by a deputy head of the agency, Vasyl Bodnar.
“We had 453 signed bilateral agreements. Now about 300 documents remain in force, but a further audit of what we can refuse is ongoing,” the diplomat explained. At the same time, he noted that Kiev do not take radical steps: Ukrainian authorities do not terminate diplomatic relations with Moscow and do not stop diplomatic presence in Russia. According to Bodnar, at present there are a number of treaties currently in force within the Commonwealth of Independent States and bilateral agreements between the two countries.
In 2019, on the initiative of the Ukrainian side, the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation, and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia terminated. This document signed in 1997 claimed that Moscow and Kiev are building relations on the basis of the principles of inviolability of borders, mutual respect and peaceful settlement of disputes.
