Ukraine Withdrew from Three CIS Agreements
OREANDA-NEWS. Ukraine withdrew from three agreements signed within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
The decision was made on August 12 by the Ukrainian government. The cabinet terminated agreements on cooperation in training of military personnel for the border troops of the Commonwealth states, on cooperation in the field of culture, and on the creation of the Council for Cultural Cooperation of CIS members. They were signed during the period of 1992–1995.
After the coup d’état in Ukraine in February 2014, the country’s new leadership announced that it was starting the process of leaving the CIS. After 2018, Kiev withdrew from a number of cooperation agreements within the Commonwealth. These are, in particular, agreements on cooperation in the field of foreign economic activity, financial intelligence, on the interstate exchange of economic information, on ensuring the safety of interstate secrets in the sphere of legal protection of inventions, and several tax treaties.
