Two Candidates Passed to the Second Round of Presidential Elections in Croatia
OREANDA-NEWS. Zoran Milanovic, the former Prime Minister of Croatia, the President of oppositional Social Democratic Party, wins the first round of the presidential election after processing 99.89 % of the vote. According to the State Electoral Commission, he scored 29.57 %.
The incumbent President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic (the ruling party Croatian Democratic Union) received 26.65 % of the vote. Popular musician Miroslav Skoro (an independent candidate) gained 24.42 %.
None of the candidates got more than half of the votes (50 % plus one vote), therefore Milanovic and Grabar-Kitarovic pass to the second round of voting. The second round is scheduled for January 5, 2020.
The polling stations were closed on December 22, at 19:00 local time. The State Electoral Commission registered 3.72 million voters. 1.9 million of them took part in voting.
