Twitter Blocked the Account of the Hungarian Government
OREANDA-NEWS. The social network Twitter has closed access to the official account of the government of Hungary. This was announced on September 30 by the official representative of the Hungarian cabinet, Zoltan Kovacs.
“The work of the official account of the Hungarian government was suspended without warning or explanation,” Kovacs wrote on his Twitter page and added that the Hungarian authorities expect an official explanation of the reason for their actions from the social network. The spokesman also noted that the account was blocked before the publication of the European Commission’s annual report on the rule of law in the European Union. It is expected that the document will contain a critical assessment of Budapest’s policy in this sphere.
Hungary has been repeatedly criticized by the EU for the anti-migration laws that the government of Viktor Orban introduced in 2018. The European Commission considers that legislation that restricts the ability of non-governmental organizations to assist illegal migrants in obtaining asylum or any other legal status is contrary to European directives on the asylum procedure and on the conditions for receiving refugees.
